One of the best links we have found for activities and information in the general region is at  http://westtexastrip.com/ . This site covers accomodation, activities, adventures, attractions, tours and many more travels ideas. If you are going to visit the area review this site first!

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Management Area which includes Elephant Mountain (
http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/hunt/wma/find_a_wma/list/?id=7)  is just 1,500 feet to the north of the property and Big Bend National Park about 50 miles to the south http://www.big.bend.national-park.com/ . The views of the surrounding mountains are stunning and the quail and mule deer hunting in the area is excellent.

The nearby landmarks include Alpine, Marfa, home to the Donald Judd art at the Chianti Foundation, (
http://www.chinati.org/) and the mysterious Marfa Lights (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marfa_lights ) as well as Fort Davis and Marathon, home to the historic Gage Hotel. This part of Texas, known as the Trans-Pecos lies at 4,000 to 5,000 feet elevation and has cool nights and afternoon rain storms during the summer. The hills green up in July and August.

Birding is excellent and the area is known as one of the best places to view birds in Texas (
